Well, well, well, I never knew that having my son break his leg would be such a big ordeal. Granted I know anytime one breaks his or her leg and a femur at that its a big deal, but I figure that people do it all the time but I sure didn't know what it entailed, at least for kids. Now I think its more of an ordeal since he is 3 since they cast Adults and older children differently. Trei is in pretty much a full body cast since he is 3 and doesn't understand that he can't walk on his left leg, adults would most likely get a full leg cast so I guess thats the major difference. But wow its been a very stressful, traumatic and sad month for us, from the time the accident happend till now (4 weeks later) its been tough! He was in alot of pain the first 3 1/2 weeks, every time we moved him he would scream and since he has to be in diapers due to the way they casted him that offers a whole other aspect and list of problems. We do our best to keep him real clean but there are areas under the cast we are unable to reach and cause him to get a rash and sores. The cast also cut him in different areas and caused some bad sores which have caused alot of pain. He is at our mercy so to speak as he can't do anything...We took him to the ER a week ago up at the Childrens hospital in Fresno as he was dehydrated and his sores and rash were real bad, we wanted them to take off his cast, treat his sores and put it back on. They admitted him put him on IV's and in the Morning had us see the Orthopedic surgeon who said that its common for kids with casts to get sores under their casts and that they were unable to replace the cast as it would set him back a few weeks, he told us to just do the best we can but that having a 3 year old in a cast like Trei's is NOT easy at all...Its been real tough to see Trei in all this pain and thankfully we are finally seeing a "light at the end of the tunnel", he is starting to feel better and is scooting around and "army crawlling", he tries to stand which he can't of course as he is unable to apply pressure to his foot/leg and the nature of his cast doesn't allow it...but he is happy to get around a little and its nice to see him in better spirits!!! So thats a short update on Trei for now, its been a long haul and hopefully we don't have too much longer to go! We have a Dr's appt in a few days so we will see how he's doing, Thanks to all those of you who have been praying for him and us we have REALLY needed it and still do! I have to say due to all that we have experienced through this tough time its made me admire Parents who deal with situations similar to this on a day to day basis with kids who are invalids and are in and out of the hospital all the time. To see your child in pain and not be able to do anything or not much about it is tough!!! Thanks to this situation we will be able to share tips and help others who may go through a similar situation.
